Final post

Good morning!
What a week! I hesitated this morning about what I wanted to write in this mornings blog, but I feel that it is important so I am going to. I figure now that we're on our way home the families at home shouldn't be worried.
Yesterday after the dinner we went with Ashley further into the ghetto to see the finished work on the homes. We had to go pretty deep into the housing complex to see some of the work. All of a sudden Ashley looks at all of us and says "run!" We all took off down the steps towards Ashley's house to get away from the gang that had come into that area. Nobody panicked, we just hauled out of there. All of us made it to Ashley's house safely. After we were in the house, Ashely told us that all of the gang members that we had been ministering to during the week went up towards the other gang to protect us....the Americans. They all pulled out guns and were willing to defend us, possibly get shot, for our protection. We were all in awe that these guys, including the guy who got shot 8 times on Sunday, were willing to fight for us. That sums up why ministering to these people is so important. That is why just sending money down here is not enough. We established such a relationship with these guys in 5 days, they were willing to get shot for us. We have a bond now with these men that have murdered people, stolen from people, and live in fear for their lives everyday. Who would have thought....That is the power of God!
Even as I'm writing this, I can't explain the overwhelming feeling that gives you.
Romans 12-16 "Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited."

  1. What an amazing week you all have had and what an impact you have made in such a short time. It is wonderful to see the hand of God working and you have been witnessing this firsthand and been a very real part of His work. We'll keep praying for your safety as you travel home and for the people of Guatamala whose lives you have touched by your witness and by giving so generously of your time and talents. Love Jeanne & Reidar

  2. I am just so thankful that we have the Lord to watch over us. I'm glad you didn't post that blog last night. It would have been hard to sleep! But God gives us peace and I've felt a lot of that this week. I know He's been with each one of you and that you have received many, many blessings. All I can add is praise God for the work He started through you and He will continue to work in the lives of these people until you or someone else can go back. Can't wait to see all of you!! Love, Thelma

  3. At the moment, I don't have a better word. . . but I'm really "proud" of all of you. You have put the needs of others before yours all week long, with the possibility of negative consequences. It goes to show that God has control of all things and He gave you a peace about the work you were to do, and where you were to do it. God choose you to be the light in Guatemala this week and praise Him that you shown so brightly. We will all be so happy to have you back with us, but are glad that you took this mission to go help these people who need to know the love of God. Luv, Dawn
